BIO

Costas Dafnis (b. 1989 Athens, Greece) is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in Theory and Composition from Centenary College of Louisiana.

Costas has been awarded by the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, the National Band Association Young Composer Mentor Project, Centenary College Orchestral Composition Competition, Phoenix Rising’s Harvest Celebration Call for Scores, Michigan Honors Composition Concert, Sibeliusmusic.com Chatpage Competition, the Audrey May Smith Endowed Poetry Award, and the Pike’s Peak Young Composer’s Contest.

His works have been performed most recently at DeVoss Hall, Saint Sulpice, Riverview Theater, Antwerp Cathedral, Tibbits Opera House, St. Clothilde Basilica, Highland Square, Binda Theatre, and Newark Symphony Hall. Costas has received commissions from numerous ensembles and organizations including the Michigan State SSAA Honors Choir, Duo Petrarca, the Bene’t Club Orchestra, Coldwater Cardinal Choir, Phoenix Rising, Mastersingers Inc., Split Dimensions, Hurley Orchestra, KCC Concert Band, and the Centenary College Choir.

Costas is a founding member of Noisi Paintr, a collaborative group of three composers with similar goals of advancing repertoire for Wind Band. The members of Noisi Paintr travel and tour to national festivals and conferences. When not composing, Costas spends his time playing mandolin poorly and burying himself in all of the strange, obscure poetry he pretends to like.
