Adagio cantabile (2009)

viola, piano
duration 6'

In 2009 my composition teacher was a fantastic violist, so I had little choice but to fall in love with the instrument's unique timbre. If there's one thing a solo viola can do, it's sing a haunting melody. Adagio cantabile is built on swaying minimalist textures in the piano set against the long melodic lines which largely show off the viola's low-register.
